3 Things To Know When Buying A Home

There are a ton of guides out there with lists of information that new home buyers should know when they begin their search. However, the laundry list of rules, guidelines, tips, and more is exactly the reason you hire a Realtor® to begin with, it’s our job to know these things and advise you.

Instead of another long list of terms and information your Realtor should already know, below is a quick guide on your rights and options as a buyer.

1. Hiring a Realtor is YOUR choice!

Any licensed Realtor can represent your buying and selling needs anywhere in the state that they’re licensed in. This means that you do not have to use the listing agent (the name on the sign) if you don’t want to. Do your homework, ask around and get some recommendations on the experience your family and friends have had when buying or selling their homes. Find a Realtor you feel comfortable and confident with.

2. Get Pre-Qualified

There are several loan types depending on your financial abilities and credit history. When you begin to work with a Realtor, they’re going to recommend the same thing. Getting pre-qualified will tell you several things before you begin your search;

Your price range: There is nothing worse than falling in love with a home only to find out that it is out of your price range.

Your loan type: There are several different loan types available and they all have different criteria that the home must meet to be approved. Even if you find a home in your price range you may find that the home doesn’t meet the requirements of your loan type.

Your Credit History: Many people are surprised to find blips and dings on their credit history that may prevent them from getting the home of their dreams. Often times, these dings can be cleared up faster than you’d think. Knowing this at the start of your search can give you time to correct any blemishes and put you in the price range of your dream home.

3. Have Fun!

This is an exciting time and experience. Obviously, there may be circumstances that might force your hand and cause you make exceptions on what you’re looking for, but don’t be afraid to look through plenty of houses or wait until the right house comes on the market. This is YOUR decision and YOUR future home. Don’t let a Realtor who is in a hurry rush your process or talk you into a home you’re not sure about.
